Culturally Speaking
S5 E1 British Monarchy Traditions and History of the Royal Family
Welcome back to another season of Culturally Speaking! We’re back after a summer of travels and in Season 5 we will be focusing on British culture, something dear to our hearts as girls that love living in London.
The recording of the first episode sadly coincided with the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II. We start by discussing the period of national mourning in the UK and Neha’s experience attending the Lying in State to pay her respects to the queen. You might be surprised to learn why the current royal family is known as House of Windsor and what they were previously known as. We break down what a constitutional monarchy is and some of the more unusual rules that they follow. Of course we couldn’t miss out Queen Elizabeth’s impeccable fashion!
